“Libraries are where we come together, to read, socialise and learn. I have spent hours reading with the younger members of my family and they are fond memories. I know how important they are to so many residents, young and old.” Dan Aldridge

Worle Library has long been at the heart of our community. It’s a place where people of all ages come to learn, connect, and feel part of something bigger. But with council funding pressures and the current building facing major inefficiencies, the library is now under threat of closure. Local residents, led by MP Dan Aldridge and supported by campaigner Nick Smart and Labour activists, are determined to make sure that doesn’t happen.

The campaign’s goal is simple: to keep Worle Library alive by finding a sustainable new home and running it as a community-led, volunteer-powered space. Plans are underway to explore suitable premises and build a network of local volunteers who share a passion for reading, learning, and community spirit.

This campaign isn’t just about saving a building; it’s about protecting access to knowledge, creativity, and connection for everyone in Worle.

Local Labour Councillor Attends Parliamentary Reception on Armed Forces Covenant

Weston-super-Mare Labour is proud to highlight the work of local Labour councillor Catherine Gibbons, who recently attended a Parliamentary Reception focused on Strengthening the Commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

Cllr Catherine Gibbons attended in her capacity as Chair of the North Somerset Council Armed Forces Covenant Board. The event brought together key voices committed to supporting veterans and service families. Cllr Gibbons met with Alistair Carns MP, Minister for Veterans and People, to discuss the future of the Covenant, including the need for legislative change and the importance of local implementation.

The reception also featured moving and inspiring speeches from Lt Lily-Mae Fisher of the Royal Navy and veteran advocate Dave Coleman of Civvy2Commandos, highlighting themes of resilience and perseverance.

Weston-super-Mare CLP applauds the commitment to championing the Armed Forces Covenant and supporting the armed forces community here in North Somerset.

Labour is announcing over half a million more children will receive free school meals. This will put nearly £500 more in parents’ pockets and lift 100,000 children out of poverty. WSM Labour
